Sarah Garrity - Question 4

QUESTION 4 PART 1

How did you use media technologies in the construction, planning and evaluation stages?

The first technology we used in the entire project was the internet, this was used to all our research for both the music video and the ancillary tasks, we used youtube to view other music videos for inspiration and used the internet to look at other artists album covers. The internet was used mainly for inspiration that helped us on the way to make our music video.

Without the technologies we have, i doubt that the music video would ever of got made, therefore technologies was a big part of our project. Without the technologies the video would'nt of even been filmed, we started filming with a college camera, however the battery died very soon and we had very little footage to work from, so the next time we went out we made sure we had more than enough battery's, however we struck a problem again, when we went to upload the footage the quality of the footage was terrible and it was all pixelated down one side, we decided that this footage could'nt be used. Therefore the third time we went out to film we used our own camera, which worked fine. However by this time we was already way behind all the other groups.

During the lesson when we had faulty footage and their was no editing we could do, we decided to start the ancillary tasks. We used 'Photoshop' and 'Indesign' these programmes were very simple to use.

'Indesign was the main programme we used, i used to to colour correct all the images, to make them appear darker and grittier. I also used indesign to add the text onto the ancillary tasks, my first thought was that their would be very limated choice to pick from, therefore we would struggle to get the right font to match our brand image, however there was lots of fonts to pick from and you could also download fonts from the internet if you wish.  Getting the ancillary tasks on the blog was very simple, all you had to do was export the image, and save it. Then once it was saved you could simply just upload them like a normal image.

I would say that 'Final Cut express' was the main programme used throughout the entire project. This is what we used to editing all of our music video together.

This programme allowed us to cut our footage down, leaving us with just the footage we wanted. Getting your footage on to final cut was very simple, all you had to do was press file and capture, then you have to wait for all your footage to capture into final cut. When the footage has finished uploading, you can then drag which ever footage you want onto the time line.

We wanted to get rid of all the sound on the footage so the music is the only audio on the footage, to do this you have to lock the footage, and then all you need to do is delete the audio under the footage, once this is done you can unlock the footage again.

Everytime you did something new to the footage, it needed to be rendered before you can watch what you have already done,  to do this all you need to do is select the footage that has been changed select sequence, render and then render all. The final thing that we used final cut express for was to colour correct our footage, as we felt some parts of it (mainly the parts with our actress) was too light,

we colour graded it so it was darker with a hint of blue in it, this give the footage a more of a dark gritty feel to it.
